I don’t care how good a litigator is, there comes a time when even
the great ones lose. Whatever else you may think of him, John
Edwards is a great lawyer.
Sure he caused damage to obstetricians in the Carolinas and
throughout the fruited plains. Sure he changed medical
procedures to the more dangerous C-Section surgeries vs.
natural births. Sure he bagged huge judgments and settlements
to the cost of insurance companies and medical practices. Sure
he ruined many a medical career.
Maybe some deserved it. Maybe some didn’t.
But Edwards had a job to do.
He represented his clients to the best of his abilities and earned
them and himself millions.
You know what I say to that? Mazeltov!
Those who are flawed are irritating
to those of us who are perfect
Either through guilt at his quickly achieved success, a superiority
complex, or a combination of the above, Edwards has deemed
himself the king of all that is worthy and unworthy in the USA. Yet
as another agent for “change”, he seeks to be the latest liberal
Robin Hood of the world.
Yet Edwards is an angry man. He seems to hate the country that
gave him and many others the opportunity to be the first man in
his family to go to college, make millions in a short time, and run
for senate, vice president, and twice for president.
He’s demanding an immediate $9.50 minimum wage. Let the
bidding begin! This means all wages go up proportionately, a
prerequisite to union support. If all of this doesn’t resonate, look
at the runaway inflation we’re now suffering in good part from last
year’s minimum wage increases.
He demands government takeover of health care. He demands
tax increases for large and small business. He wants to force
corporations to go green. This will push their stockholders
portfolios to gangrene.
And this from a man who owns, heats and air conditions a 28,000
square-foot mansion!
One has to wonder if Edwards isn’t trying to get more outrageous
fees for his brethren, the bankruptcy lawyers.
The problem is this compulsion to break the rich, evil corporations
will kill anyone’s ability or incentive to start or continue a
business. If you can’t show a profit on a proposal for a loan, or
growth in sales, who’s going to gamble on the next Microsoft,
Apple, McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, US Steel, or Your Bar and Grill and
my asphalt and paving company? Also, with the cost of goods
from Edward’s setup, the rest of the world won’t be able to afford
our products. Isn’t THAT what has crippled our once mighty auto
business?
And Ronald Reagan thought he killed Communism!
Ignoring his own vote to send us to Iraq, and backing this same
vote as late as 2004, Edwards’ latest position is a “complete
withdrawal of all combat troops within nine to ten months”
regardless of whether we’re winning. Sadly for Edwards, it looks
like we may be able to achieve this without surrendering. Think
THAT might increase the respect he claims we’ve lost from the
world?
Yet John wants to “…end the genocide in Darfur and the conflict in
Uganda…” Will we be sending US troops THERE? Wasn’t it a
good thing we rid Saddam and his murdering sons from
committing torture, murder, and rape on his own citizens and
neighboring countries?
I tried out for the violin, but only
made it to the third string
Even though Edwards has been relegated by democrat primary
and caucus voters as a weak third string to Hillary’s and Obama’s
coronation, he brings three things to the table:
Delegates
Money
Support from the whacky far left
In return he could get another VP nod and come up through the
back door as a presidential frontrunner. Or he could buy a
Supreme Court seat.
He ought to make his bargain soon, while he still has the cash
and delegates to bargain with. The longer he stays in the race the
less valuable his support becomes. At a certain point, the
eventual candidate won’t need it. Even his old bud and running
mate, Senator Kerry, has turned his political assets over to
Obama.
Time to cut your losses and settle, counselor.
Just think John could always go back to being what he’s good at,
a lawyer.
